Information Center
Climate District – Neue Weststadt
The information center for the climate neutral urban district will be located on the station forecourt in Esslingen. In this central location, the modern, attractive and sustainable building- and spatial design concept is being developed and implemented in an urban, reduced style combined with elements of a contemporary ecological, environmentally friendly and resource-saving building aesthetic. An exhibition on the research project and the unique energy concept of the residential quarter will take place both inside the container building and on the integrated exterior surfaces – open, lively and transparent. The visitor and information center for the Climate District offers information for all age groups. All around, different areas are used individually, flexibly and creatively. In the outdoor area, individual structural elements and communication areas represent a wide variety of topics and messages. They are part of the scenographic concept, information transfer and knowledge transfer.
In the heart of the city
A small urban gardening project is being created near the information- and visitor center. It includes mobile raised beds and plant boxes, herbs, site-specific plant cultures and a bee-friendly variety of flowers. In terms of the overall concept, the available space will be usable and integrated as a “public space” for citizens, visitors and interested parties on the station forecourt. The attractive information center is intended to be part of the sustainable life in Esslingen. The goal is to permanently use the area in front of the information center and to integrate the creative scene and cultural workers of Esslingen.

Sustainable Information Center
A space for meetings, information and exchange is created. Haptically attractive elements are used in the construction and interior design. A high-quality, modern, biological building equipment with valuable and natural materials such as wood, stone and clay are used. Refurbished materials as well as up- and recycled materials are used – plastic and inferior materials are avoided. A thematically coherent and aesthetic design concept is to be realized both indoors and outdoors. Container construction and interior design are based on the sustainability concept of the DGNB.
Guided Tours and Excursions
